Abstract

The article adresses issues relevant to the understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) while presenting theoretical-clinical elements of the Dutch phisician and psychologist F. J. J. Buytendijk. The development of studies related to Biology and Physiology by the author, allows na interlocution with current research in the field of Neurosciences. However, the reflection presented here is more phenomenological and seeks to describe the child’s experience with ASD, showing that the body has a spiritual or ontological dimension, that should not be neglected. In the Phenomenology of the Encounter, Buytendijk, illustrates the importance of intersubjective experience not only for the autistic child, bus for each and every human being. However, in the case of individuals with ASD, the experience of na authentic encounter with others can function as a therapeutic elemento in the sense of providing freedom and awakening their won existence.
