Abstract

The article is dedicated to the phenomenology of perception and attention from the perspective of its critical-ethical developments. We focus on phenomenological descriptions of perception and attention and the possibility of social criticism based on phenomenological descriptions. It can be said that the critical-ethical meaning of the phenomenology of perception involves a return of the gaze, of attention, to the generative aspects of perception. This even makes it possible to distinguish crystallized social modes that constitute habits of perception and action. In the descriptive-eidetic sphere, phenomenological research into perception and attention configures an incidence of the gaze capable of dealing with things according to their latency, their relations of meaning with the horizon of experience, which, strictly speaking, does not allow for rigid circumscriptions. In the socio-historical and cultural field of perception and attention, issues relating to the sharing of attention stand out from phenomenology. There is a continuum capable of encompassing both responsible and oppressive forms of concern for the attention of others. On a macro-social level, there are various technical, enunciation and historical and social practices that configure concrete possibilities of perception. In the text, we highlight the discussion of elements related to racism and what we call the scopic regime of targeting.
