Chico Xavier, o Numinoso e as Ciências Normativas: Contribuições para a Psicologia da Religião

Abstract

The present work aims to perform an analysis inspired by the normative sciences of Peirce to understand the influence of The Numinous or sacred in the Brazilian medium Chico Xavier, given its importance in the social and religious scenario of Brazil. Then, it also aims to provide some contributions to the psychology of religion as a field of knowledge. Three stories about the medium are taken as diagrams and discussed from aesthetics, ethics and semiotics, always based on phenomenology. Finally, it highlights that, from the ontological specificity of numinous, it is possible for the psychology of religion to establish clearer differences between religion and spirituality, to consider the ethical aspects linked to the relations between ego and self and also the problem of truth, which needs to be thought in terms of individual subjective senses and also by the collective criteria of legitimation.
